The Butinskis were childless, and a single child wasexempt from serving in the Army. This sort of "adoption" was notuncommon. But Morris was discovered, and was being taken to the Army (orsome sort of detention.) He was tied to a tree overnight, escaped, andmanaged to get his family and himself to Green bay, and then on toVirginia, MN.
